Hi All:
Just wanted to fill you in on Edgar's status. It has been a little
over a week since Edgar's accident. The day Linda and I saw him he
was sedated and not conscious.
He has lost both legs and had brain surgery to releave pressure
from fluid build-up from some head injury he received. His vital
signs were good, BP and pulse. He is 36 years old not 46 as last
reported. He has three children a boy 13, and two girls, 7 and 3.
The two older ones know about what happened. It has been in the
New York papers. His mother was so emotionally upset when she
heard the news she had to be hospitalized. I
believe she is home now.
He was removed from heavy sedation. The doctors wanted to see
what his response would be. He did awaken and asked about his
wife and children. Then he said he wanted his Bible.(He is a
Prospective member counciling for baptism in the LCG). Since last
Sunday he had family and close friends visit him and was able to
converse with all of them. He was alert and
realized he had lost his legs. He believes God saved his life and
has something in store for him. He wanted one of our members(his
best friend another PM) to come up on the Sabbath and bring him
some tapes and read the Bible.
In the past few days hIs condition worsened and his temperature
went up very high. They sedated him again. He was scheduled for
surgery on next Monday (May 10th)but with this high temperature
they will not be able to operate on his wounds.
He cannot have general visitors yet and is still in an intensive
care recovery area.
As far as donations are concerned we are waiting for either a
Trust account to be set-up or we may just get the address of the
bank where Edgar and his wife have an account. Then donations can
be mailed directly to the bank. I will keep you all posted. As
far as immediate funds the New York City and L.I. churches have
donated a substantial sum to help Elizabeth for the near term. A
great deal of food was also collected along with a good supply of paper goods to ease the burden.
It must be noted, Edgar was in the printing industry in NYC and
lost his job due to the vast cut backs in this industry. The
current job he was holding had no benefits. They are in need of
help and we are doing what we can. Social Services is stepping in
to help. And the NYC victims crime bill may come into affect and
provide funds but this will be slow in coming.
He has a long way to go and is not out of the woods yet. He needs
our prayers for God's intervention.
Regards to all,
Roger & Linda Allgeyer
